"Hemp / Marijuana became illegal in the U.S. in 1937. This is due to extensive propaganda campaign by William Randolph Hearst Lamont and DuPont (DuPont Company). Hearst provided the bulk of U.S. with paper made from wood pulp. Hemp paper manufacturing, but is much more efficient and environmentally friendly, Hearst would have cost many millions. DuPont had patented chemicals the method of making synthetic nylon from coal and competition from natural hemp products would have cost too much. The popularity of marijuana name Also dates from this time and also due to the same propaganda of Hearst and DuPont. Marijuana is just the Spanish name for the English word hemp. Popularising use of marijuana plant name made sound strange and foreign and therefore easier to criminalize even though hemp was grown in U.S. many decades before. In fact, the U.S. constitution was written on hemp paper. "Hahah on hemp paper? IRONY! lol: o)
